Today's Bible Reading, October 2

THURSDAY, October 2 | Reading # 54: Jesus Is Immanuel
Today’s Bible Reading:   Isaiah 7:1–25

“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14)

Do you know the meaning of your name? Does it have special significance? Does it fit you? In ancient times, names were chosen very carefully. Often they conveyed some aspect of the family’s story. When Isaiah predicted that the virgin’s child would be named Immanuel, there was a definite purpose behind it. Immanuel means “God with us.”
Matthew 1:23 shows the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy. Jesus is Immanuel—God with us. For the 33 years of his life on earth, God was with us, physically speaking. Spiritually speaking, God is with everyone who follows his Son.
